Written by the great Mark Farner about his marriage ending to his 1st wife Cheryl. He wrote Bad Time & Mean Mistreater about her too. "Heartbreaker" is a song from On Time, the debut studio album by American heavy rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released in August 1969, by Capitol Records. It was produced by Terry Knight.
Grand Funk Railroad's debut album is filled with bluesy hard rock and some minor psychedelic elements. The album is pretty heavy for it's time. The songwriting is OK and the instrumental work is quite solid. None of these songs blows my mind but most of the time this record is entertaining.

Lyrics
Once I had a little girl
Sometimes I think about her
But you know she's not really there
When memories do call
And I just can't live without her
But tryin' all the time is so hard to bear
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker is bringing me down
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down
Now I don't cry no more
I live while I'm flying
But I'll think back and you can hear me say
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down, yeah yeah
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down, yeah yeah (Oh!)
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down
Heartbreaker, can't take her
Heartbreaker, bringing me down
